Robert Low: The Kingdom Series
Sara Sheridan: How to be a Lady
Historically, the women of Wrest Park shared a love of books. Throughout March a range of lectures will reflect this strong historical and literary tradition, exploring some of the historical associations of Wrest Park and the families within its colourful past, as well as delving into the life and times of Society and the Stately Home in a bygone era.
Author Robert Low's trilogy The Kingdom Series centres around Sir Thomas Grey of Heaton, Northumberland, and his father, whose lives spanned the era of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Both Thomas and his father were captured and imprisoned during this time.
The final book in The Kingdom Series, entitled The Lion Rampart, is out this year and focuses on the fate of Scotland, now in the hands of Robert the Bruce.
Novelist Sara Sheridan will be presenting 'How to be a Lady' at Wrest Park. This talk focuses on her fascinating archive research into the lives of women over the last 250 years, and charts the huge changes in social and class structure that surround how women were and are valued by society.
