Costumes from Austen

Belsay Hall plays host to displays of a fabulous collection of costumes from a variety of Jane Austen film and TV productions. See the infamous shirt worn by Colin Firth in TV’s Pride and Prejudice, Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress from Emma and many more.

Regency Revival
Venue: Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, Northumberland

To celebrate the opening of the “Costumes from Austen” display of TV and film costumes, we bring together both the genteel and graceful side of Regency society with the dramatic and theatrical side.

Medieval Castle Life
Venue: Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Northumberland
Date: Sun 26 & Mon 27 May 2013 (bank holiday)

Join the 15th Century folk of the York City Levy as they take up residence within the castle walls. There will be demonstrations of various medieval past times and crafts depicting the variety of medieval jobs and positions in a castle.

Time Travellers Go... Crime and Punishment Week!
Venue: Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, Northumberland
Date: Mon 27 May - Sun 2 Jun 2013 (bank holiday)

Meet Thomas Turlis, the 18th Century Hangman at Tyburn. Hear his tales of felons and their punishments during the Georgian period and take part in trials. There is also a crime and punishment trail in the grounds.

Time Travellers Go... Roman Festival - Gladiator School
Venue: Chesters Roman Fort and Museum - Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland

At Chesters Roman Fort for half term we will train youngsters to be Roman Gladiators with hands on activities for all children willing to become the next Gladiator!

Time Travellers Go... Roman Festival - Roman Soldier School
Venue: Housesteads Roman Fort - Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland
Date: Tue 28 May - Sun 2 Jun 2013

At Housesteads Roman Fort for half term we will train youngsters to be Roman soldiers with hands on activities for all children willing to join the imperial army under the instruction of Maximus the Centurion.
