You don't have to be a cricket fan to enjoy Pavilion Cottage - but it will do no harm if you are. Built in the early 1900s for sporty cadets at the Royal Naval College, it later became a store room, before livestock were allowed to take over the wicket.
Game over! Today, the long, south-facing verandah is the perfect place to sit and agree with Queen Victoria, who said: 'It is impossible to imagine a prettier spot'. She would be impressed by the interiors, as elegant as an Alastair Cook cover drive.
Queen Victoria made Osborne House her country get-away for 50 years before her death in 1901. It remains an extraordinary legacy to the long-reigning monarch and an intimate insight to her character. The Durbar Room, built in the 1890s in recognition of her title as Empress of India (though she never set foot in India) is a tour de force. Queen Victoria was always reluctant to leave Osborne House - a feeling shared by anyone holidaying at Pavilion Cottage.
Guests can explore Queen Victoria's private beach, "We have quite a charming beach to ourselves," Victoria wrote in 1845 and it was here that the Queen regularly bathed and where her children learned to swim. Pavilion Cottage guests can use the beach at all times and usually enjoy exclusive access outside normal opening times.
