Facilities Details

Large lawned areas, perfect for picnics.

Food & Drink

The tearoom is set inside the Royal Artillery Barracks. Where possible we use local Cornish suppliers and support both Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance products. The tearoom closes half an hour before the site.

Parking

Main car park on Castle Drive - follow signs past 'Ships & Castles' Leisure Centre. Disabled parking in castle precinct (signposted against the one way flow on Castle Drive). Disabled visitors may be set down at the keep entrance.

Access

 

Access to castle: via impacted gravel paths. Spiral staircase and difficult steps to upper floor.

Two steep steps at ticket point, tickets also available in shop.

Shop: level access.

Refreshments: tearoom, easy access.
Toilets: accessible WC.

Exhibition/museum: Ground floor level access only, stairs to reach exhibits upstairs.

Grounds: Grassed and tarmac areas, but assistance needed for some steep parts.
Many good viewpoints.

Benches provided around the site.

Disabled access (wheelchair access to the grounds, although there are steep steps or drops in places).

There is full wheelchair access to the Barracks, and a virtual tour of the whole site.

Visually Impaired Visitors

Braille and large print handouts available. Tactile exhibits in Discovery Centre. There are some low doorways and ceilings, and the ramparts can be hazardous.

Hearing Impaired Visitors

The site virtual tour located in the Royal Garrison Artillery Barracks has English subtitles.

Learning

The Barrack Block has family-orientated hands-on displays about the site.

Please be aware...

There are large steep and sheer drops from the castle walls and ramparts.

Education visits are still available on Mondays and Fridays, during November and March, at this property. If you are an education group leader find out how to book your free educational visit.
