The project will be completed in two stages: the visitor centre opening first and the landscape restoration to be completed later. The key milestones are outlined below.
The first phase of the long-awaited improvements to the setting and visitor experience of Stonehenge will be launched soon. This will be followed by the opening of a group of reconstructed Neolithic houses at Easter 2014 and the final phase of the project - the restoration of the landscape around Stonehenge - will be completed in the summer of 2014. Stonehenge continues to welcome visitors as normal at its existing facilities. The switch-over from the current facilities to the new visitor centre will be overnight so that there will be no disruption to visitors.
Autumn 2013: Installation of Airman's Cross memorial in visitor building precincts
December 2013: New visitor centre opens
January - March: Reconstruction of Neolithic houses as part of the external gallery
January - June: Removal and re-landscaping of existing facilities
Summer 2014: Landscape restoration works completed
