Diver visits

Anyone wishing to be a licensee for a historic wreck in English waters, which has been designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973, should complete the appropriate online form and submit it electronically.

Different forms are needed to visit a site; excavate a wreck; recover artifacts; survey a wreck and designate a wreck. Please link to the Protected Wreck Sites page for a complete list of online forms.

It will then be considered by the 'Advisory Committee on Historic Wreck Sites', who will  recommend to the Secretary of State whether or not a licence should be granted. The Advisory Committee may also recommend that certain conditions are attached.

If you need help with this application or if you would like to receive hard copies of the application form by post, please contact the Maritime Archaeology Team.
