In 2002 the north east was enjoying a great deal of media interest; the BALTIC centre for contemporary art opened to great acclaim, and English Heritage felt that Belsay Hall needed to once again become the venue for showing innovative design.
Sitting Pretty was an exhibition curated by Judith King showing a collection of contemporary seating made for groups of people, including works by artists Langlands and Bell, furniture designer Lord Linley and New York based designer Karim Rashid.
