We can search the photographs, documents and other records held in our archive for you using either the free enquiry service, or the priority search or research service (see details below).
If you're then interested in any of the material we find, you can order copies.
Online
You can search over a million records for photographs, plans and drawings of buildings and archaeological sites. Order copies online via the English Heritage Archives website. When you place an order, we'll contact you to confirm any costs before sending copies.
Our catalogue of aerial photographs isn't available online so contact us to request a search.
Free Search Service
Not everything we hold in our Archive is available online. Therefore if you can't find what you're looking for online, we offer a free search service limited to a single building or site.
We aim to respond within 15 working days, but may take longer if demand is high.
Priority Search Service
If you need a response quickly, we offer priority search services for a fee. We'll search the archive on your behalf and tell you what we've found within two working days of receiving your enquiry.
All response times are subject to receiving your enquiry before noon.
Research Service
If your enquiry is about a number of sites, a large area, or a building type we may be able to help. We charge an hourly fee for this service and will contact you before we start the search to tell you how much we estimate this will be. Due to limited staff resource, carrying out complex or voluminous requests may not always be possible.
For our current Priority and Research Service fees and costs of copies of photographs, reports etc. please see our price list and please read our terms and conditions.
