Following the Government's 2010 Comprehensive Spending review, which resulted in a significant reduction in public spending the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) was abolished on 31 March 2011.
The fund was originally set up in April 2002 to provide grants to tackle a wide range of problems in areas affected by the extraction of aggregates.
English Heritage was a major distributor of the fund on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and supported projects which reduced the impact of extraction on the historic environment.
