The school environment is a rich learning tool. Two new teaching and learning resources will be made available online for teachers of both primary and secondary level.
These resources are designed to encourage schoolchildren’s understanding and awareness of their school environment, to question and explore the nature of old and new school buildings, and to provoke critical thinking around construction and sustainability.
The first learning resource will be available through English Heritage’s image-based education website, Heritage Explorer, and will focus on how schoolchildren can trace the history of their school.
The second is a resource available through Engaging Places, the online resource to support teaching and learning through buildings and places, which offers three activities designed to make the most of the learning opportunities created by building a new school or refurbishing an existing one.
