This project seeks to increase knowledge and understanding of the historic environment in the Luton-Dunstable-Houghton Regis corridor of the Milton Keynes South Midlands Growth Area. Through applied research, issues such as the content, context, distribution and preservation of historic assets will be examined. The research will also look at the impacts of environmental, climatic and developmental drivers upon these assets, and how this record has shaped the present historic environment.
The aims and objectives are also partly policy-driven. The results of the research will contribute towards, and influence the direction of, the future development plans for the Growth Area, alongside the requirements of Heritage Protection. This project will help to deliver English Heritage's European Landscape Convention Action Plan, but we also hope that by understanding the historic landscape it makes a positive contribution to development in the Luton and Leighton Buzzard Growth Area.
