Research Strategies

Reasearch Strategies

English Heritage produces a series of strategies that provide a useful overview of existing research on a range of subjects.  These strategies are shaped by the priorities identified in the National Heritage Protection Plan and highlight current gaps in our knowledge and potential areas for further research.

Our Research Strategy

The National Heritage Protection Plan sets out our high-level strategy going forwards for protecting the historic environment, including understanding and identifying what is important.

Our Research Priorities

SHAPE sets out the priorities that not only underpin English Heritage's own research programme but also any research projects that we fund through our grants scheme.

Landscapes & Areas

Landscapes reveal a great deal about our past if you know how to read them. English Heritage carries out a wide range of research on different types of landscape to help us understand how a place has developed.
