English Heritage supports training of heritage professionals through the organisation, funding and administration of placement schemes. The schemes are set up to address particular areas of skills shortages identified by labour market research and the strategic direction of the heritage sector.
Placement schemes aim to place candidates for a limited period, typically one or two years, as working staff in real working environments, either within English Heritage or in other heritage sector organisations.
Here they can learn the skills necessary for specific posts or job roles, and also receive targeted support in developing their career. This might entail working towards relevant vocational qualifications, or working through a tailored curriculum of projects, briefings and mentoring from relevant colleagues.
Details of available places on current schemes are given on linked pages.
