This publication is one of a series on archaeological field survey techniques published by English Heritage. It covers the electronic total station theodolite (TST) and its use in landscape archaeology.
Metrically accurate surveys underpin the process of observing, recording and understanding archaeological landscapes, and four case studies provide details of some of the processes involved.
It is hoped that this publication will help those engaging in surveys of such areas to understand the strengths and weaknesses of using a TST, see how the techniques integrate with other available survey methods and learn the basic rules governing survey with a TST.
