Bandstands

Bandstands

Bandstands were manufactured in large numbers from the 1870s to the 1930s when they became less and less central to the experience of parks. The heyday of the bandstand was probably 1890-1900 when almost every park of any size had its own bandstand as a central focus for entertainment and gathering. The style of the bandstand was probably based upon the chatri or domed and pillared pavilion found in many Indian and Islamic buildings.
