Welcome
Welcome to the website of the National Churches Trust (previously the Historic Churches Preservation Trust and the Incorporated Church Building Society). For the thinking behind the change, read the Chief Executive’s statement from the Trust’s Annual Meeting, an endorsement from the Bishop of London and the official press release.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome via our Contacts page. Please note that our postal address and office telephone number remain unchanged.

Saxon, Norman, Early English, Neo–Classical, Rococo, Gothic, Arts and Crafts… whatever their origins, we have a vast wealth of historically significant churches in England and Wales. From a hundred years old to a thousand, from the tallest spires to the smallest parishes, we work at keeping churches in good repair and in good use. We are the only national charity whose aim is the preservation and promotion of historic church buildings, and funds raised today will help secure a viable and meaningful future for them. Since 1953 more than £26m, raised from voluntary giving, has been passed on in over 12,000 grants and loans. Receiving no government funding, the Trust relies entirely on the generosity of its supporters.

Our objective as an organisation is not just to ensure that churches attain the minimum standards of any historic building, but also to encourage their continual use and embellishments as centres of local community life.
