Section of NMP mapping for the area immediately south of Stonehenge. The map shows the extensive prehistoric field systems (plotted in red representing banked features), and the groups of settlement enclosures and the linear ditches linking them together (plotted in green representing ditched features). The vast majority of these features on the uplands between the two river valleys (shown by the concentration of green ditches representing "water meadows") on either side of the image have been levelled by years of ploughing and are now only visible from the air. © English Heritage.
