Wilsthorpe DMV (NMR12116/57)

The deserted medieval village of Wilsthorpe photographed on 18-JUL-1991. The nucleus of the village has been destroyed, but the earthwork remains of sunken trackways, strip fields, a pond, and various other hollows, banks, and ditches survive. Super-imposed on the latter of these is a World War II trench that may have been used for training or actual defence purposes. Its location may have been strategically chosen to make use of the existing earthworks. © Crown copyright. NMR.
