Become A Medieval Engineer!
Become A Medieval Engineer!
Where: Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Scarborough Castle and Beeston Castle
Practical workshops to explore how people from the past solved construction problems. How did they build bridges, towers and siege engines? Using a large scale construction kit, pupils can become real engineers. A real hands-on history experience!
Pupils explore the main features of the castle in an interactive tour, relating these to methods of attack and defence and construction. Working in groups, they use Tac-Tic (plastic construction materials) to build a successful bridge alongside the castle walls, exploring how medieval engineers faced and solved the same problems.
The second activity involves students in building a catapult and taking part in a bean-bag-throwing challenge. They explore features of successful methods of warfare and forces.
