Where: Scarborough Castle
Learn more about the opposing Royalist and Parliamentarian forces in the Civil War. Explore why the war started and how it affected life in the castle during the siege of 1648. Discover how the fighting changed lives and divided families. Investigate objects and take part in a weapons drill and sword-play.
Students learn about the impact the Civil War had on ordinary people and places. They will experience the reality of the fighting as they see real muskets being used and handle objects used by soldiers. They will develop their knowledge of the causes of the war and the way that families were divided over religion. They will learn about life during the period, clothing, food, warfare, arms, armour and religion.
