Take the Paper Bird Challenge at Birdoswald
A week of fun to see whose paper aeroplane can fly furthest and fastest
English Heritage is inviting visitors to Birdoswald Roman Fort to try their hand at building and flying some top flight paper aeroplanes. Friends and family can pit their piloting skills with head to head flying races against the uplifting backdrop of Hadrian’s Wall.
From July 22 to July 29, visitors to Birdoswald will be given printed instructions of three paper aeroplanes – the Classic Dart, the Floating Plane and the Rapier. There is no cutting or glueing required, just a few sharp folds and some hotshot launching techniques. The challenge is to fly the planes as far and fast as possible along a special on-site runway.
Richard Polley from English Heritage said: “This is going to be great fun for our visitors and we’re sure it will inspire a spirit of friendly competition. Many people may think they have the formula for the perfect paper aeroplane and this is a chance to put them to the test. Once your group has proved who is top gun you can take off and explore the rest of Birdoswald Roman Fort with its 2,000 years of history.”
Birdoswald Roman Fort is three miles west of Greenhead off the B6318 and is signposted from the A69. The site is open from 10am to 5:30pm daily. Admission: Adult £4.10, Concession £3.10, Child £2.10, English Heritage members free.
