Explore England's Past

www.exploreenglandspast.org.uk is a key output of the five-year project, England’s Past for Everyone (EPE), which is funded by the HLF and run by the Victoria County History at the Institute of Historical Research.  English Heritage is a partner on the project and is providing 510 new photographs and reconstruction drawings of selected buildings and sites for EPE.

The site provides free access to thousands of local history resources including images, historical documents and audio files. It can be searched by location, people, place, theme and time period. Materials are being collected by local volunteers and historians and their research will also contribute to a series of paperback publications and schools and learning resources.

Explore England’s Past The website launch event was held at the Houses of Parliament in June 2007.  It was attended by Rt Hon Ruth Kelly (then Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government) and the website was officially launched by historian Michael Wood.
