Housesteads Roman Fort (Hadrian's Wall) Hadrian's Wall, Housesteads Fort - view of Fort corner and wall Meet Centurion Maximus and discover what life was like on the frontier. Explore Roman military life and discover how the building of Hadrian’s Wall affected the local population.

Pupils are met by a Roman Officer and introduced to life in the Roman Army.  They will assume the roles of recruits and be introduced to the fort and taken through their duties using drama and role play.  Using artefacts and replicas of artefacts found near Hadrian’s Wall the recruits will be able to discover the life of a soldier and the life of the civilians who made their living trading with the Fort. The recruits will tour both the fort and the remains of the vicus (settlement) outside the fort gates.
