'Eltham after the Courtaulds' Exhibition

NEW FOR 2008!

As visitors walk through the splendour and opulence of Eltham Palace, few realise this sumptuous setting was the home of the Royal Army Education Corps (RAEC) for more than 40 years. A new exhibition details the RAEC's time at Eltham Palace and brings another chapter of the property's fascinating history to the fore. The new display charts the RAEC's history at Eltham, illustrated with an officer’s bedroom presented in the style of the 1960s.

Tori Reeve, curator of the new exhibition 'Eltham after the Courtaulds', said: "The RAEC occupation of Eltham Palace marks a hugely important chapter in the property's history. Most visitors associate the mansion with the fun and frivolity of the Courtaulds' time here, but actually these lavish interiors were enjoyed by RAEC officers for far longer than the Courtaulds lived at Eltham. By presenting a room as it would have looked when occupied by an RAEC officer, visitors will get a sense of the contrast between regimented Army life and the beauty and glamour of the headquarters itself."

'Eltham after the Courtaulds' is open to the public from Sunday 22nd June.
