South East: “Spring-line”
Spring-line, South Downs (2007-2009)
This Outreach project aims to raise awareness amongst young people of the need to protect the historic landscape and local distinctiveness of the South Downs and it’s villages in a creative and sustainable way.
Through a residential and workshop series, opportunities are provided for young people to find out and learn about rural crafts and traditional building skills relevant to their local area and to enable them to perceive this as a future job option. During the project for the summer and autumn of 2008 they will be achieving the ASDAN qualification: Residential and Adventure and receiving sound careers advice and information to take their training further if they choose.
The project this year will target young people from the ages of 14-16 living in Thakeham village in West Sussex and Leigh Park estate in Hampshire. Our main partners are the West Sussex and Hampshire Youth Services; The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Singleton, West Sussex; The Sustainability Centre in East Meon, Hampshire and Connexions East Hants.
