EPPIC placement in Human Osteology and stratigraphy
Stefanie Vincent
BSc in Forensic Science, University of Central Lancashire.
MSc in Palaeopathology, University of Durham.
Prior to starting the English Heritage professional placement in conservation I worked for several field units working on sites ranging from pre-historic cremations to industrial metal working factories. I have also taken part in research excavations of early medieval burials at Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland and have worked on both cemetery sites and settlements with the British Museum in northern Sudan.
My current internship is provided by the Institute of Field Archaeologists and English Heritage under the supervision of Simon Mays. The placement offers a chance to complete analysis of skeletal collections as well as investigating potentially complex stratigraphical relationships. A major component of my internship involves analysis of human skeletal material from excavations at Whitby. In addition to these duties I will be completing an NVQ in archaeological practice and attending relevant training days and conferences.
