Hitler's Hit List
Pendennis Castle is now the home of the collection of wartime cartoons by George Butterworth. The acclaimed cartoons, which appeared daily throughout World War II, lampooned both Hitler and Mussolini, so enraging the Nazi leader that the cartoonist was put on his 'hit-list'. After the war he turned his attention to Stalin and the post-war Labour Government.
During your visit to Pendennis set aside some time to view the cartoons, generously given to English Heritage by his widow, a nearby resident to the castle.
