West Midlands: Goodrich through the Seasons

English Heritage worked with SCORE on an arts and heritage project during 2007 and 2008 to produce an exhibition of artwork and photography inspired by Goodrich Castle through the seasons. The exhibition was first shown during Heritage Open Days at the castle and is touring Herefordshire throughout 2009.

Autumn_Goodrich through the seasons. SCORE, part of  Tact UK Ltd, helps individuals with significant learning disabilities to achieve their potential, believe in themselves and feel a sense of belonging through active participation in a wide range of activities including sport, the arts, leisure, training, voluntary work, employment and social enterprise within their communities.

Sean Ladd, Opportunities Manager at SCORE said:

“We are delighted to have been able to work with English Heritage on exploring heritage and local history with the individuals we work with, utilising a medium that enables a deeper understanding of the richness of our past in an engaging and expressive way”.

Winter_Goodrich through the seasons. The painting of Goodrich in winter by Derek Wilding, a participant in the art activities at Goodrich Castle, said of his experience:

“I feel I have really achieved something.”

Greeting cards of some of the paintings are available to buy from SCORE. The money raised through the sale of the cards will support further art activities in heritage settings for the group.
