HMS Colossus at Pendennis Castle
On Tuesday 29th September 2009 join English Heritage and expert Maritime Archeologist Kevin Camidge for an exclusive event about the story of HMS Collossus.
Launched in 1787, HMS Colossus soon earned a fine reputation as one of the best and fleetest warships in the British Navy. During her short life of just 11 years service, apart from taking part in major naval engagements, Colossus covered numerous duties; occasionally serving as a convoy escort.
In the late 1700’s HMS Colossus became known as the fastest and finest ships in the service until December 7th 1798 off the Isles of Scilly Colossus caught in a fierce storm was eventually wrecked on the Southard Wells reef.
Today HMS Colossus is one of our nation’s most significant ship wrecks.
