Main activities
Research, consultation, teaching and dissemination in palaeoecology (pollen analysis & sediment stratigraphy) and archaeobotany; wetland archaeology – member of English Heritage’s Wetlands Strategy group.
Present research projects
The palaeoecology of iron-ore mining on Exmoor – studies at Roman Lode. The Heath Project – the history and development of the heath landscape of south-western Cornwall. Groundwell Ridge – plant resources at a Roman Villa near Swindon.
Recently completed projects
Viborg Søndersø II – archaeological and scientific investigation of an 11th century (Viking Age) workshop area. Vegetation and land use prior to the Roman Wall at Black Carts (Hadrian’s Wall).
