VIEWPOINT

' A mural produced with the Tennyson Lodge Community Group A mural produced with the Tennyson Lodge Community Group. Viewpoint' uses mobile communications to develop a sense of place, lived experience, reminiscence and civic pride.

VIEWPOINT is a living biography of Fenland that comes alive as readers move through the towns and villages using their mobile phones to both access poems as well as add to the archive. As readers traverse Fenland they will find themselves moving through a network of points attached to landmark sites. These sites will range from skate parks to local community centres, school gates and busy bus stops.

The Tennyson Lodge disability group creating the fen tiger mural The Tennyson Lodge disability group creating the fen tiger mural. The poems were generated by people who live and work in Fenland. Professional writers Ann and Peter Sansom worked with 12 community groups and in workplaces to generate an archive of creative writing for the project. Groups included a young travellers group, teenage mums, local primary schools, a disability group and a young carers group.

Each of the community sites has its own keyword, and by sending this keyword as a text message readers will receive a free short SMS text poem. The poems are relevant to the nature of each site so, for example people waiting to pick up their child from school will be able to read about memories of childhood, the school or parenthood. Each location displays an example poem and artwork inspired by the words from murals to photographs to ceramics.

Visit www.viewpointfenland.co.uk  to see a map of the sites in Fenland, read the poems, see the artwork and find out more about the people who created the poems.
