Background Aims
• to generate through research new information and fresh interpretation of the architectural heritage of Newcastle and Gateshead.
• to make current scholarly understanding of the subject accessible to a wider audience, both professional and lay.
• to re-evaluate existing accounts of sites and buildings, present fresh research, describe and evaluate new, restored and altered buildings and features, and explain the built environment within a wider context of social, economic and technological change.

Anticipated Results
• A 320 page, illustrated guidebook with a general historical introduction, detailed coverage of a selection of major buildings, a series of walks covering the central area of Newcastle and Gateshead and a small number of suggested excursions from the centre to sites and buildings of major architectural significance.
• Publication in the Pevsner Architectural Guides series within the first six months of  2008
