South West: "Mapping Time"
An English Heritage led project has brought together three community groups in Bristol to create works of art inspired by the historic buildings in their city.
Members of the Mapping Time Project were asked to become 'art archaeologists', exploring the history and stories around two Bristol churches, St. Peter’s and Temple Church, and to record their own personal responses to the sites.
Artist Colin Higginson worked with a team of 24 people from CLASS (Continuing Learning at South Street), Studio Upstairs, a unique therapeutic community for people who have experienced mental health difficulties, and One in Eight, a community-based charity in the north of the city. Each group produced work for a week-long exhibition which attracted more that 1500 people. The work included sculpture, wall hanging and postcards that were put on show in the public spaces around both churches.
