Youth, Camera, Website, Action!

Youth, Camera, Website, Action! Filming in the gardens of Kenilworth Castle This was a partnership project with Kenilworth Youth & Community Centre (Warwickshire County Council) as part of the Kenilworth Castle Elizabethan Gardens Project, which includes archaeological excavation and the restoration of the Elizabethan garden.

Working with a film maker, young people from Kenilworth Youth Centre produced a short film about the Castle which interprets the garden through their eyes and recreates the lifestyle of people living at the Castle in Elizabethan times. It features some ghostly goings on!

The young people involved in the film project learnt new skills including how to put together a script, a story board, to film & edit scenes and about producing special effects and lighting. They also learnt about life and costume in Tudor times, archaeology, and about the history of Kenilworth Castle.

Working with a website designer, other young people were trained to design and maintain a new website which will be a space for them to use as well as a portal for young people to access services within Kenilworth.  The young people will produce the content and update the website with news and events at the Castle in the future.

The website provides the opportunity to build a sustainable relationship between local young people and the Castle staff and will also offer an important communication channel for English Heritage within the community in Kenilworth. Visit www.kennieyouthie.co.uk.

Copies of the DVD will be available from early 2007.  Please contact Suzanne Carter for more detail on 0121 6256870 or suzanne.carter@english-heritage.org.uk
