Festival Of British Archaeology

Hampshire

We are throwing the doors open to everyone for a weekend to celebrate archaeology in action as part of the Festival of British Archaeology. Vote for your Historic Hero and join in the themed activities.

Children can follow our Archaeological Trail, where they can dig in an excavation, learn about the objects they find, handle bones, survey shipwrecks, see bugs, and be landscape detectives. There are alchemists to meet, sixteenth century food to sample, and you can learn to dance like a Tudor monarch. You can dress up, try your hand at stained glass or calligraphy, do wall painting and tile making, and daub your wattle! Could you be a Marine Archaeologist? Bring your swimming costume and Tri-dive! Tour around fabulous Fort Cumberland, take part in quizzes and games, and listen to talks by experts, on everything from earthworms and honeybees to D-Day and top secret rocket sites!
