Local Studies

The local historic environment is a rich resource for teaching across the curriculum. Giving a local focus to your work, not only in history and geography, but in other subject areas, can stimulate pupils to produce exciting and original work. Looking at issues which affect the local community can involve your class in weighing evidence, listening to opinions, and making and justifying decisions; all part of the Citizenship curriculum.

Why not get your pupils involved in our Save our Streets campaign by carrying out an audit of the clutter in your own locality and sending it to your local councillor?

In this section of our website you will also find schemes of work in history, geography, art, design & technology and citizenship. These demonstrate clear learning objectives and outcomes with links across the curriculum and extension activities. The schemes are not prescriptive, and can be developed in whichever way is appropriate for your group. The activities are aimed at Year 5/6, but may be adapted up or down as necessary.
