Collections and Interiors

The number and geographical distribution of our properties with collections is such that the day-to-day care of collections on site is managed by site managers and custodians. Each region is supported by one of five Senior Curators and (with one exception) at least one Assistant Curator.

The collections staff based in central London provide the following:

• Advice on overall strategy and annual priorities
• A consistent professional methodology for collections management through the Collections Management Manual
• Written procedures
• Standard-setting
• The co-ordination of training
• Professional leadership
• Advice on specialist conservation
• Co-ordination of loans
• Development of documentation systems
• An acquisitions service for major works of art (including fundraising)
