GLSMR Updates
The Greater London Sites and Monuments Record (GLSMR) is regularly updated when new reports and data are received from archaeological organisations, academics, local societies and members of the public. The documents below contain summaries of the reports that have been added or updated during the specified period, they are available in PDF and Word formats. They are listed here so you can find out what work has been reported on, and follow this up. The are arranged by borough, on the assumption that many people wish to find out what has been found in their area. However searches can also be requested from the GLSMR using other search criteria, such as by archaeological period.
The reports are divided into two sections:
- New GLSMR records. This section is a summary of new GLSMR records created during the specified period. These records are normally generated by the receipt of archaeological reports from one of the various archaeological organisations operating in London. The data in these records is often very limited as the reports need to be summarised by a member of the GLSMR team before the complete record can be created, however, they are included to indicate the receipt of the report which is available for viewing if required.
- Updated GLSMR records. This section is a summary of the GLSMR records that have been updated during the specified period. These records are normally generated by the completion of a GLSMR record following a summary of the archaeological report by a member of the GLSMR team. These records also include those that have been updated with new or corrected information, and those records updated during the GLSMR data rationalisation project.
The archaeological reports on which these entries are based are lodged with the GLSMR, and can be seen at our offices, by appointment. Copies should also be lodged with the local studies library of the borough in which the investigation took place. The archaeological organisation that undertook the work may well be able to provide you with a copy of any relevant report.
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents, if you don't already have it, download a free copy.
