The children’s time capsule

Created by pupils and teachers from Avebury Primary School and Kennet Valley School

The time capsule has been created as part of an archaeology education project to help children find out more about Silbury Hill and the excavations taking place there during summer 2007. The children planned their own objects for a time capsule, inspired by the urn of memorabilia which was sealed up in 1849 and buried in the Hill.

Avebury Primary School
The objects the children chose included pictures of themselves and mini-autobiographies shown below. Other objects to put inside included a copy of the school newsletter, acrostic poems, photos of the children at Silbury Hill, a newspaper cutting and a photograph of the children working in the classroom.

Kennet Valley School
Ideas from the school children at Kennet Valley School included a hymn sheet, a cam technology lesson, stickers, a pencil sharpener, a drawing pin, a magnet and a magnetic letter, a blue sports day ribbon, a paint brush, a rubber, a domino, dice, reward stickers, a hair clip, blu tack, draughts piece, chess piece, a clothes peg, money, a timetable for the Silbury Hill project, a zip, a counter, a paper clip, photographs, a memory stick, a newspaper and pictures.
