After your Visit
Eynsford and its surrounding countryside in the picturesque Darent Valley is a lovely place to spend time.
Bring your walking boots and follow the Darent Trail, a 3 ¼ ramble that takes you back thousands of years and goes past six amazing sites and attractions including a Hop Farm and, for the more energetic, a short hilly section that takes you up to Kent’s bird of prey centre at Eagle Heights.
For those interested in gardening, Lullingstone Castle is just up the road. It is one of England’s oldest family estates and its ‘World Garden’ of plants is where cutting edge horticulture meets plant heritage.
In the town itself, see Eynsford’s ancient ford and a hump-backed medieval bridge which are still in use today. The riverside here is a nice place to linger and watch the ducks, and children can paddle in the shallow water. Just off the High Street, at Eynsford Castle (also run by English Heritage,) see the remains of one of the earliest stone castles.
With a selection of pleasant pubs and a fine collection of pretty buildings, Eynsford and its attractions are well worth a visit.
Tracking Romans in the South East

At Richborough Roman Fort, see the site of the first Roman landing and visit the museum with its fascinating collection of artefacts.
Built towards the end of Roman rule, visit Pevensey Castle to see the last and strongest of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts. The best preserved of these forts can be found at Portchester Castle. It is the only Roman stronghold in northern Europe whose walls still stand mainly to their full height.
Dover Castle, has a fascinating history that goes back 2,000 years and boasts being home to one of Europe’s best-preserved Roman lighthouses. It is here where you can enjoy fun family events through out the summer.
