Animals in War

During WW1 several units kept cows either as mascots or to provide fresh milk. The Scots Guard adopted two from a herd of cattle in a shelled field near Ypres in Belgium. They were named Bella and Bertha and attached to the Quartermaster. They went wherever the Scots Guards went. They marched in the Victory Parade through London before moving into barracks in Aldershot.
