St George and the Dragon

St George and the Dragon

St George, patron saint of England, is famed for his dragon slaying. According to legend, a dragon made its home at a village spring, forcing the villagers to distract it with offers of sheep so that they can collect water. When the sheep run out, the villagers draw lots to send sacrificial virgins instead, until one day a princess draws the short straw. Luckily George happens to be passing and kills the dragon before it can munch on the beautiful princess.
