Dropzone D-Day, Messerchmitt and Spitfire planes dogfight

Our Supermarine Spitfire was built at Aldermaston in 1944 as a Mk IX photo reconnaissance aircraft. It flew more than 40 operational missions over France, Holland and Germany, constantly encountered anti-aircraft fire and was often attacked by German fighters including the revolutionary jet-powered Messerschmitt Me262, one of the few aircraft that had the speed to catch her. The Messerschmitt here was, until recently, based in Berlin for the filming of the latest Tom Cruise blockbuster movie, Valkyrie.
