Intertidal and coastal peat database
The records
As part of an inventory to assess the number of known sites and the potential extent of peat deposits around the English coastline, a database has been compiled detailing site information relating to their location, nature, age and associated artefactual evidence.
It is hoped that the database will be of use to the research community across disciplines and to coastal planners, through the identification of former and extant sites. The database also offers the opportunity to recognise research priorities, through the identification, in particular, of coastal sites in areas at risk of loss (such as through erosion) and in indicating the potential for locating sites in the future. Another of the database’s functions is as a bibliography.
The database is not a static resource, and will be updated as and when new site records are encountered. Please send details of new and/or omitted sites that you might know of to the database administrator via email (see below).
