Real Wedding: Tristan Rowe and Jane Kessell at St Mawes Castle
Cornish born and bred, romance first blossomed for Jane and Tristan as teenagers at Truro School. Nine years later, Tristan proposed unexpectedly over lunch in their favourite beach-front café.
For them both, St Mawes Castle was connected with happy childhood memories and Jane had always dreamt of marrying there. As Visitor Operations Manager for English Heritage at Pendennis Castle, she could gaze across the River Fal to St Mawes every day from work.
So it was a dream come true for the couple when they married in the pretty Tudor castle’s Upper Gun Room, giving their special day a Cornish theme to reflect their love of their home county. Tristan wore Cornish tartan and at the reception - also held at the castle - local wine was served.
Glorious June sunshine warmed their 70 guests as they enjoyed drinks and canapés in the castle’s lovely tiered grounds looking out to sea, before moving back inside the castle for a delicious buffet and chocolate wedding cake, decorated by Jane’s sister Natalie, with chocolate dipped strawberries.
After dinner and speeches the Garrison Mess Room was cleared for dancing. Guests were taken back to Falmouth by boat before the couple left for a honeymoon in Venice and Lake Garda.
