The Planning and Development department handles the two essential parts of this country’s system for heritage protection: identifying and celebrating heritage through listing and other types of designation, and protecting it through the planning system by advising on different kinds of consent, such as listed building consent.

Heritage Protection

The Heritage Protection Department identifies buildings and landscapes as being of special interest in a national context through Listing and other types of designation such as Scheduling and Registering.
