Monuments at Risk

The Dartmoor Vision

Local authority

The Dartmoor Vision The precious archeology on Dartmoor has been secured through joint collabrative working. Dartmoor National Park Authority

Brief description and history

The Dartmoor Vision was developed by landowners, farmers and public agencies and sets out a shared approach for the sustainable management of upland grazing.

The potential for conflicting historic and natural-environment land-management requirements has been overcome by the identification of several areas of Dartmoor as Premier Archaeological Landscapes (PALs), where the needs of the archaeology take precedence over biodiversity.

Many of the scheduled monuments at risk in the South-West would benefit from being included in landscape-scale environmental projects of this kind and similar schemes are already being developed for other archaeologically rich landscapes, such as Exmoor on the Devon and Somerset border.
