Tree Registering

An independent charity, the Tree Register maintains a database of information on 130,000 large, historic, rare and remarkable trees growing in Britain and Ireland; a network of volunteers continues to add several thousand records each year. This unique resource is regularly consulted by scientists, the media, research students and others.  www.tree-register.org allows members and the public to gain up-to-date details of champion trees, or to request any specific information. Trees of all kinds can be added to the register. In general, exceptionally large, old or historic specimens of the commoner species are included, along with good examples of less widespread kinds or those with known planting dates, and any tree-sized examples of the rarest varieties.

A further survey system Wood-pasture and Parks Information System (WAPIS) has been initiated to collate data on these specific and abundant areas. The web site provides online access to a variety of data on wood-pasture and parks.
