    A small introductory exhibition in the visitor centre includes information about Neolithic mining, a virtual tour of the mines and landscape, and touchable reproduction Neolithic tools.

    Set amid the distinctive Breckland health landscape, the whole 96 acres is a site of Special Scientific Interest. The area contains over 400 backfilled flint mines, has a habitat of rare and distinctive plants and animals. The flowers are particularly attractive from April to July.  Extensive wildlife includes butterflies, rabbits, deer, birds of prey, foxes etc.

    There is lots of space to run around here. Ball games are allowed and it is a fantastic place for kite flying!

    The family explorer kit will enable you to read vital clues about the site. It includes a recording sheet, crayons, binoculars and plastic gloves for inspecting rabbit and sheep droppings.

    Interpretation for Children

    Audio visual display in the exhibition including poem by Michael Rosen. Children's 'Nature back-pack', to take out onto the site containing explorer quiz sheets binoculars, bug box, and gloves.

    Uneven ground and one mine shaft is open to the public - it has a 9 metre drop. Although shaft access is always supervised by a member of staff, there is no access down the shaft for children under 10 years old, or for those with limited mobility.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
