    You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the peaceful Heritage Garden, which has amazing views over Lincoln. You may sit on the grass area or use one of the benches provided.

    The gift shop sells a range of English Heritage gifts, including medieval and Edwardian souvenirs, books and soft toys. Children's knight costumes, wooden swords, bows and arrows are also available.

    Relax and enjoy the unique contemporary Heritage Garden, designed by Mark Anthony Walker, a haven of peace and tranquillity.

    Built on hillside terraces, its form was inspired by the cathedral’s medieval vaulting, with trees shaped to echo spires.

    The free audio tour guides you through the whole site, and describes the evolution of the buildings throughout the tenure of the different Bishops.Exhibition displays include a subtitled audio-visual tour of the palace and the garden for those unable to negotiate the site.

    Pushchairs are allowed, but are not recommended due to the quantity of stone steps throughout the site. Pushchairs can be left in the gift shop.

    There is no artificial lighting, so please take care when visiting. There are also many worn and uneven stone steps .

    We have education rooms, and meeting rooms with kitchen facilities, for hire.  The Alwick tower has two exhibition rooms whcih provide great display spaces. Please contact the site for more details.

    Wedding photography is allowed for the whole day and use of the whole site - a fee is payable. Please contact the site for details.

    English Heritage welcomes all photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures with us on Flickr and Facebook.

    We do have some restrictions at certain locations, so if photography is your main reason for visiting, please call the site ahead of your visit to check if any parts of the site are restricted.
